Pipe Industry Guild Annual Golf Challenge

A sunny October 10th saw the revival of the annual all island Pipe Industry Guild Golf Challenge at Warrenpoint, County Down. Under the guidance of respective captains’ Conor Bray and Adrian Blakemore, the respective Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, PIG Committee Members went head to head in pursuit of the Silver Jug. The contest was hard fought from the 1st tee to the 18th  green and it all came down to the final pairing, when after a ‘long’ count the contest was pipped by the Northern Ireland lads, by a score of 77 to 75. Handing over the old trophy Adrian congratulated our NI opponents and wished them good fortune in minding it for the next 12 months!.

CORAS & PSS HIRE Trial New Remote Control IVAC Unit in Lucan

CÓRAS and PSS Hire arranged a 1 day trial of the new IVAC Unit in Liffey Valley Park, Lucan on 10th Apri 2014l. The innovative remote control tracked vacuum unit was demonstrated to staff from Irish Water (www.water.ie), Farrans Construction (www.farrans.com) and the Domestic Meters Suppliers. This was the 1st field demonstration of the conceptual unit in Ireland and the team successfully delivered high powered vacuum excavation for 41 water meter installations in heavily congested service pits. The unit was widely welcomed by technical spectators and local residents for it’s speed, versatility, safety around
services and capacity to minimise disruption, run off and dirt from excavation works.
The team are currently planning to expand the trial in early May.

CÓRAS & McBreen Environmental Vac Ex Trial for Farrans/Irish Water

20140331_083507[1]20140331_092951[1]

The CÓRAS Water Meter Install Team, headed up by Tony Slevin, working in conjunction with the Vac Ex Operation Team from McBreen Environmental (Cavan)
(http://www.mcbreenenvironmental.ie/) and the Project Management of Farrans
Construction (www.farrans.com) trialled the purpose built mini Vac Ex Unit this week on the Domestic Meters Works & Services Contract for Irish Water in Lucan, Dublin in the first week in April (’14). The 10 man team quickly gelled and following induction and
familiarisation commenced excavation in earnest within 1 hour of site set up. The unit is mounted on a 3.5T flat bed Mitsubishi Dyna truck,  meaning it has beneficial accessibility strengths in the urban and suburban areas of Dublin.

The Unit operates in similar fashion to the conventional industrial sized units with a
fraction of the operational costs. Operating in areas of high existing service congestion and heavily compacted ground the unit and team achieved excavation productivity
performance of 5/hour.

Quality of performance, pit size, cleanliness, excavation speed around multiple live
services is greatly improved, and the unit represents an innovative tool in the
approach to advancing small scale urban excavation works.
